Night of 10th July 2017 was not blissful for the devotees. The bus that was loaded with amaranth pilgrims was on the target of militants. So when the bus was on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Anantnag at Botengo, militants attacked the bus. Around 56 passengers were in the bus at that time. Among which 7 were killed that includes five women and 15 civilians were injured. All the injured civilians were residents of Gujarat according to the sources. The attacked area was so close to a security camp on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Police of J&K said in their statement that first attack made by militants was at around 8:10 pm on a police bunker in Bontengo. Only firing from both the sides was reported till that time no reports of injuried were recorded.
The bus which was targeted by bullets had a number plate of Gujarat GJ09Z0976. It was going from Baltal to Jammu. A highest official spoke to Indian express and confirmed death of seven pilgrims during attack. Others are still suffering from serious injuries during the firing added by Sachchidanand Shrivastav an additional director general, CRPF, J&K zone. Officer said that the targeted bus was not registered. It was not in the list of transport carrying pilgrims. At the time of attack the bus that was carrying pilgrims from amaranth to Jammu was already by the Jawahar Tunnel.
Mehbooba Mufti Chief Minister Of Jammu & Kashmir also visited to the spot after the attack. She said that people who come to Kashmir are all guest of them, and militants have blow their culture and ethics. She also added that it was attacked to create fear in the Kashmir and kashmiriyat. But we should not get afraid by the violence; we have to stand against it to give them better answer for this attack. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had also showed his disagreement by tweeting. All the help that would be needed to tighten the security would be given by him. One of the survivors in the attack named Amit told that for around one minute firing was going on.
The bus was on its way from Baltal to Jammu and every passenger was in the pool of blood at that time. Soon after the attack Muneer Khan Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone also went to the spot to clear out the real situation of the area. At the same time search operation was launched by the Army, CRPF and J&K Police. Right now the whole highway is on high alert. And security for Amarnath Yatra has been made more tighten
